Who We Are

Charting our course through decades of maritime legal expertise

Our People

Look, we've been around the block a few times when it comes to maritime law. Started back in '98 when shipping disputes were getting messier by the day, and someone needed to actually understand both the legal stuff AND how vessels operate in real-world conditions.

We're not your typical law firm - half our partners spent time at sea or working dockside before they even cracked open their first law textbook. That hands-on knowledge? It's what sets us apart when we're negotiating charter parties or dealing with pollution incidents. You can't fake that kind of understanding when things get complicated.

Our Journey

1998

Founded in Vancouver's harbor district. Three partners, one shared belief - maritime clients deserve lawyers who get it. Started with cargo disputes and haven't looked back since.

🧭
2005

Expanded practice to include environmental maritime regulations after BC's coastal protection laws tightened up. Someone had to help ship owners navigate that mess without going bankrupt.

2012

Opened our international trade division. Global shipping doesn't respect borders, so why should legal expertise? Now we've got connections from Panama to Singapore.

🧭
2018

Secured landmark victory in complex multi-jurisdictional cargo insurance case. Put us on the map internationally and proved our approach works even in the toughest waters.

2025

Still growing, still learning. Twenty-seven years later, we're handling everything from routine vessel registrations to multi-million dollar shipping disputes. The ocean never stops changing, neither do we.

Why Maritime Law?

Honestly? Because it's never boring. One day you're dealing with a collision in the Strait of Georgia, next day it's a contract dispute over frozen fish bound for Tokyo, then someone's calling about environmental compliance for a new LNG carrier. The law of the sea is ancient but it's constantly evolving - kinda like the ocean itself.

Plus, there's something about maritime work that attracts people who actually give a damn. Ship owners, crews, port authorities - these folks work hard and they need lawyers who understand the pressure they're under. We've been out on vessels during inspections, spent time in engine rooms, sat through cargo loading at 4 AM. That stuff matters when you're drafting contracts or arguing cases.

We're based in Vancouver because it's one of the busiest ports in North America, but our work takes us everywhere. If you've got a maritime legal problem, chances are we've seen something similar before. And if we haven't? Well, that's when things get interesting.
